BBI : An architecture for blackboard systems that control , explain , and learn about their own behavior
نویسنده
چکیده
BBl implements a domain-independent “blackboard control architecture” for Al systems that control, explain, and learn about their own problem-solving behavior. A BBl system comprises: a user-defined domain blackboard. a pre-defined control blackboard, user-defined domain and control knowledge sources, a few generic control knowledge sources, and a pre-defined basic control loop. The architecture’s run-time user interface provides capabilities for: displaying the blackboard. knowledge sources. and pending knowledge source actions. recommending an action for execution, explaining a recommendation accepting a user’s override, executing a designated action, and running without user intervention. BE31 supports a variety of control behavior ranging from execution of pre-defined control procedures to dynamic construction and modification of complex control plans during problem solving. It explains problem-solving actions by showing their roles in the underlying control plan. It learns new control heuristics from experience, applies them within the current problem-solving session, and uses them to construct new control plans in subsequent sessions.

PalymSys - An Extended Version of CLIPS for Construction and Reasoning Using Blackboards
This paper describes PalymSys -an extended version of the CLIPS language that is designed to facilitate the implementation of blackboard systems. The paper first describes the general characteristics of blackboards and shows how a control blackboard architecture can be used by AI systems to examine their own behavior and adapt to real-time problem-solving situations by striking a balance betwee...
متن کاملNeuro-ACT Cognitive Architecture Applications in Modeling Driver’s Steering Behavior in Turns
Cognitive Architectures (CAs) are the core of artificial cognitive systems. A CA is supposed to specify the human brain at a level of abstraction suitable for explaining how it achieves the functions of the mind. Over the years a number of distinct CAs have been proposed by different authors and their limitations and potentials were investigated. These CAs are usually classified as symbolic and...
متن کاملIntegrating Diverse Reasoning Methods in the BB1 Blackboard Control Architecture
The BBl blackboard control architecture has been proposed to enable systems to integrate diverse reasoning methods to control their own actions. Previous work has shown BBl’s ability to integrate hierarchical planning and opportunistic focusing. We show how it can integrate goal-directed reasoning as well and demonstrate these capabilities in the PROTEAN system. We also compare BBl with alterna...
متن کاملKnowledge-Based System for Structured Document Recognition
This paper discribes a document analysis system broadly consisting of a knowledge base, a blackboard and a set of tasks having their own set of spacialists for segmentation, recognition and for inheritance. The knowledge base contains a generic hierarchical description of the document structure in terms of layout objects labeled logically. This allows the generation of hypothetic networks of li...
متن کاملThe First Workshop on Blackboard Systems
The first panel was primarily concerned with identifying the architectural and organizational attributes that distinguish blackboard systems. As more and more systems appear claiming to use the blackboard paradigm, it is increasingly necessary to determine a set of criteria that define the essential elements of blackboard systems. This panel was also concerned with the question of how far syste...
